Day 1 of the 6 days Mountain Rwenzori mountaineering safari via Bukurungu Trail: Transfer from Kampala to Kasese to your hotel.

Upon arrival at the airport in Entebbe, you will be picked by our Uganda safari guide who will give you a short briefing about your 6 days Mountain Rwenzori mountaineering safari and after transfer you to Mountain Rwenzori National Park Uganda situated in south western Uganda to your prior booked accommodation lodge/ hotel/ campsite.

Day 2 of the 6 days Mountain Rwenzori mountaineering safari via Bukurungu Trail: Transfer from Kasese to Okorukumi and then to Rwigho Camp

6 days Mountain Rwenzori mountaineering safariAfter your early morning breakfast at your camp, your driver guide will drive you to Okorukumi where you will start your hike to reach Mountain Rwenzori National Park or at Kasanzi Gate for registration at the Park Ranger outpost. After registering, you will be led to trek on the trail that bends west on the ridge overlooking Kasuka and Isule valleys hiking onward to Ekebitakuli for your hot lunch as you rest. After your lunch, you will hike through the montane rain forest and bamboo forested valleys. During the hike, expect to encounter with several plant species like the, Scadoxus cyrtanthiflorus, Disa stairssi, Impetiens apiculata and some primates including black and white colobus monkeys, chimpanzees, birds like the Rwenzori Turaco and other bird species. You will have a musical journey along the trail as you listen to several sounds of birds and primates that inhabit this forest. The trail will lead you through the heather zone to crossing river Rwigho to Rwigho Camp for dinner and overnight. This whole journey will take your about 6-7 hours.

Day 3 of the 6 days Mountain Rwenzori mountaineering safari via Bukurungu Trail: Depart Rwigho Camp for Kambeho Camp

In the morning after breakfast, you will embark on a trail that leads you to Kambeho camp, hiking through the heather trees (Ericathiasis) with lots of moss hanging over these trees. While hiking in this heather zone, you will come across a variety of heather trees, alchemila, scencio trees black berries, among many more plant species. As part of your adventure, you will spot Varvet monkeys, black and white Colobus monkeys, sun birds, the Rwenzori turaco a rare beautiful bird in the park. Expect to see lots of giant lobelias, everlasting flowers and rock shelters. Arrive at Kambeho Camp for your dinner and overnight. This hike will take you about 5 – 6 hours with a en route for a hot lunch at Mitiyighaghire.

Day 4 of the 6 days Mountain Rwenzori mountaineering safari via Bukurungu Trail: Transfer from Kambeho Camp to Mughuli Camp

After breakfast, start with a climb along river Lhume, in the early morning hours of the day when still fresh and strong. You will have the urge to climb the steep Mughuli bypass. As part of this discovering adventure, you will slope down to Lake Mughuli which is within MTN network coverage to give you a chance to call friends and family members about the beauty and experience encountered on the trail. There are several short peaks which one can easily climb depending upon what time you have arrived in the camp and how you feel. You will see vegetation along the Lake characterized of beauty that will catch your eyes. Expect to see animals along the trail including the Rwenzori red-duiker, rock and tree hyrax and wild pigs. Arrive at Mughuli camp, where you can have a self-guided walk to explore the water falls. This journey is approximately 6-7hours hike with a stopover for a hot lunch at Mulhalhama resting view point. 

​Day 5 of the 6 days Mountain Rwenzori mountaineering safari via Bukurungu Trail: Depart from Mughuli Camp to Lake Bukurungu Camp

Take your early morning breakfast and set off for Lake Bukurungu camp set in the heart of two mountains; the Portal Peaks and Mount Gessi. This is a relaxing point to acclimatize for those interested in climbing the Portal Peaks and Mount Gessi. This 6-7-hour hike from Mughuli camp takes you through a very gentle crossing trail that passes through different vegetation including the alchemila, several giant lobelia species and the wonderful unknown leaf looking like a human palm. Arrive at Lake Bukurungu camp with a stopover for a hot lunch at Kinyamiyeye. On this day if the weather is clear, your eyes and hands on the camera will have all the main peaks of Edward on Mount Baker, Margherita and Alexandra on Mount Stanley, Vittorio Emanuela on Mount Speke, Kihuma on the Portal Peaks and Mount Gessi at glance.
